Our news and reports
On 30th April 2024 the Caring about Dignity team went to parliament to present a report on their campaign for same-sex care to parliamentarians. We were joined by two members of CAN-SG. The full report can be accessed here:
Some of the speeches given at the meeting can be accessed below.
1) Speakers included Sam, one of our founders whose non verbal highly autistic daughter, Helen*, has been denied same-sex care provision. Sam's council does not collect data on sex.
2) Another speaker was our founder Florence, who is herself a carer. She spoke about the upset caused when her late client was continually sent male carers against her wishes.
3) Dr Sinead Helyar from CAN-SG spoke about the principle of consent with some concerning statistics from an examination of fitness to practice data from doctors and nurses.
4) Cathy Mudge from CAN-SG spoke about the issues of same-sex care on mental health wards, the issues with Annex B and concerning statistics of rapes in hospitals.
